It is hard to believe that we are just 5 days away from Christmas, and we here in New England don't have any of the white stuff on the ground! In fact, we haven't seen it since the October storm that left us without electricity for 4 days. I'm not saying I want a blizzard or anything, but just a little dusting might add to the spirit of the season. I'm starting to feel like all the bloggers I follow that live down south. We went to cut down our Christmas tree wearing fleeces and sneakers! Oh well, if mother nature isn't providing the snow, how about some little buttercream snowmen. I think I love this plain little guy best of all.

Microbiology Cake
When it comes to the most interesting themed cake I've made thus far, this one takes the cake! It is a microbiology themed cake complete with a microscope, cells, germs, viruses and DNA. One layer is chocolate cake and the other is yellow cake with a hint of almond. They're filled with chocolate buttercream and iced in buttercream with fondant decorations. I hope I succeeded in making germs & viruses look appetizing!

Birthday Wishes
I recently had the opportunity to support a great charity, Birthday Wishes. This charity provides birthday parties for homeless children. Kake donated a gift certificate for a cake to be raffled off for Birthday Wishes. Check out their link if you get a chance:

Movember Moustache Men
A friend ordered these cupcakes for a bake sale at his work. When he first told me that the theme of the bake sale was "facial hair", I was slightly horrified. He then explained that all of the men in his office had been growing moustaches during November Movember to raise money and promote awareness of cancers that affect men. Here is a link to the foundation that his company raised money for: http://www.degregorio.org/

Under the Sea!
These cupcakes were for a little girl's 7th birthday party. She wanted an ocean theme and settled on dolphins (her favorite), whales, turtles and fish. Half the cupcakes were yellow and the other half chocolate. I have to say, I think I'm partial to the turtles. Happy Birthday Sofia!
Happy Thanksgiving!
When I saw this cake in the November issue of Martha Stewart, I knew I had to eat it make it! It's Martha's Salted Caramel Six Layer Chocolate Cake. It was worth all of the ingredients I had to buy and the time put into it.

Two Peas in a Pod
I wasn't able to make it to my friend Sarah's shower because it was the same day as Colin's birthday party. So I made her this little cake for our little get together. If you haven't guessed already, she's expecting twins! Hence the two peas in a pod. This cake was lemon with raspberry and buttercream filling. Congrats Sarah & Ryan, we can't wait to meet the boys!

Happy Halloween!
I repurposed the table scape from Colin's Wild Rumpus into a Halloween Extravaganza. I love Halloween but find that the actual celebration is a little short lived. The kids are only in their costumes for a couples hours, and at the ages my kids are they are done with the trick-or-treating after a dozen or fewer houses. So we decided to have a party with our friends and their children the Saturday before. I made Candy Corn Cupcakes and pumpkin & ghost cookies for the kids to decorate. We had a lot of fun... it might have to become a yearly tradition!
Never knew a cookie could hold so many toppings! |

Truck Cake
This truck cake was for a little boy turning 2. It was based on the drawing his mom made for the invitations. It was a nut free yellow cake with buttercream filling. I made coordinating #2 cookies for the favors. Happy Birthday Mark!
