My very fancy daughter decided she wanted a Fancy Nancy themed 5th birthday party. She is a big fan of the book series and an even bigger fan of all things fancy. For those of you who don't know Fancy Nancy, she uses very sophisticated vocabulary and believes that everything sounds fancier in French.
I started collecting decorations and accessories months in advance. When the girls arrived they got fancy at the accessory table. There were feather boas, sunglasses, rings, necklaces, stick-on earrings, bracelets, mini purses, hair clips and tiaras! We also had manicure stations, where my sister and I painted the girls' nails. Next we played pin the tail on the poodle, inspired by the Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy book.
For lunch the fancy ladies dined on mini-croissant sandwiches, butterfly shaped sandwiches and fresh fruit with yogurt dip. They ate on fancy china supplied by my mom. After lunch I read the girls Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy. They seemed to really enjoy the book, and at the end I told them they would be making their own posh puppies. Each girl got to stuff her own poodle. Then they made beaded collars complete with doggy tags (key tags that we wrote their poodles' names on) for their poodles.
We finished the party with singing, cake, cupcakes, chocolate covered Oreos, and chocolate covered marshmallows. The top tier of the cake was purple and pink colored cake with buttercream filling and the bottom tier was chocolate cake with Oreo buttercream filling. The girls were so cute and very impressed with the cake. When Addie started to eat the tiara from the top of the cake a few of her friends were worried that she shouldn't be eating it. She explained to them that is was fondant and totally edible. I heard one of the girls tell Addie that her mom was a magical baker, I think that's one of the best compliments I've ever gotten!
Last but not least, Happy Birthday Addie Bear! I can't believe you're already 5 years old, you have two loose teeth and you're going to kindergarten in the fall! You're the fanciest girl we know and we love you to pieces!
